Prepare to Costume Your Dog: Highlights from PetSmart's 2014 Halloween Collection

Prepare to Costume Your Dog: Highlights from PetSmart's 2014 Halloween Collection

Here are the dog costumes, toys, and accessories that impressed me most during a recent preview.
Last week, I attended a preview of PetSmart's new collection of Halloween costumes and accessories for this year's celebration of all that is grisly and ghastly. Dog

garb dominated the event -- although apparently guinea pig costumes are an expanding industry. As I perused the merchandise, these are the devilish outfits and items

that stood out the most.

These luridly ghoulish outfits contain LED lights to not only dazzle up any costume parade but also help with street safety issues when walking your dog during the

witching hour.

Spray painting appropriately eerie designs onto your dog via stencils is tipped to be big this year. The paint should last for four days, so be prudent when branding

your pooch!

This diminutive dolled-up dog was called Peanut and is here wearing a very sparkly tutu and some feathers in her hair. Kardashian fashion has never been so frightful.

Muppets! Yep, this year you'll be able to fancy your pooch up as Miss Piggy or have her intended beau Kermit riding on your dog's back.

The creatures from the Hundred Acre Wood make an appearance too. Dressing your dog up as Eeyore seems a fitting Halloween ruse.

The rock star Bret Michaels of Poison infamy has launched a range of canine clothing. The pink tutu might grab all the attention, but I think the snug outfit on the

right would look very dashing on a Dachshund.

Sometimes, you really feel the urge to dress your pup up as a caterpillar, right?

Actually, scratch that -- turning your pooch into a burger dog is the only sensible way to go this Halloween.

The pumpkin recast as a dog bed. I couldn't make out whether it smelled of cinnamon and nutmeg and other seasonal spices.

Spooked-out dog food bowls. Hopefully at least one overly enthusiastic canine will go crazy trying to devour the spiders in the bowl on the left.

Turn your dog into a DC ics superhero with these Wonder Woman and Superman costumes. (No guarantee of heightened athletic ability is given.)

I consider this a salute to Mariah Carey in the form of a pair of pink butterfly wings that can be harnessed on the back of your dog.

What Halloween shindig would be plete without a dog race mandeered by rider jockeys?

It's 2014, so of course even dog treats need to involve a hashtag!
